Is it right for our family?
Why use Alfaaz if I can call and record my parents myself?
You can, and a recording you make together is worth keeping. Alfaaz helps when that good intention keeps getting postponed: it asks the opening question, follows the details in each answer, and organizes the recordings into a growing family memoir. You can hear a story between calls and ask your parent more about it next time. The value starts with getting to know them better today.
Who is Alfaaz not for?
Families who already have it covered: you record their stories yourself, or a writer is already at work on their book. Families we can't help yet: the language they tell stories in isn't one we speak, or they're no longer with us. And families who don't want it: you're not on speaking terms, or you're not curious about the life they had before you. If that's you, we'd rather say so now.
How do I introduce this without making my parent feel old or obliged?
Start with your curiosity: 'I realized I don't know much about your school days. I'd love to hear about them.' Explain that Alfaaz is an AI voice that asks questions on WhatsApp and saves their replies for the family. Ask whether they would like to try it, and make clear they can stop. A parent or grandparent can receive it as a gift, with their agreement to take part.
How do I get started if I live abroad and my parent is in India?
Choose a plan on the pricing page; your private invite arrives by email after payment. Create your family account, add your parent's WhatsApp number and language, and choose a first topic. Setup gives you an introduction to share, with a link for them to say hello. You can do this from abroad. Once they begin, you do not need to be online together or plan each conversation.
Can both my parents take part?
Yes. Choose a plan for two elders, or add a second elder to your subscription later. Each needs their own WhatsApp number and gets their own language, questions, and archive. Their stories stay separately attributed within the same family account. The pricing page shows the additional cost before you choose.
Why is it called Alfaaz?
Alfaaz is the Urdu and Hindi word for words. That is what the service is made of: an elder's spoken words, carried to family far away and kept in their own voice. It is also why the voice that talks with your elder introduces itself as Alfaaz. The site is alfaaz.me, which in Hinglish also reads as alfaaz mein, in words. If a search for the name shows you a singer or a song instead, type alfaaz.me.

Your parent's experience
What arrives on their phone, and do they need a new app?
Everything happens in WhatsApp. During setup you get an introduction to share with a link for them to say hello. Alfaaz can also send a short text invitation with a button to listen. After they respond, the first voice message introduces Alfaaz, explains that the voice is AI, and opens the conversation. They listen and reply with a voice note. No new app, elder account, password, or camera is needed.
How much time will this take, and how often will they hear from Alfaaz?
There is no appointment or required session length. They can start with a short voice note and continue while they feel like talking. Once conversations are underway, Alfaaz can invite them back every few days, with timing adjusted to their engagement and pauses. A later conversation may start with a text invitation to tap before the voice question. You can pause future invitations from the family account.
What if my parent is shy, gives short answers, or says there's nothing to tell?
Start with something they enjoy talking about: the house they grew up in, a favourite food, an old friend. You can add that context during setup. Alfaaz asks one question at a time and uses the answer to choose the next. A brief reply is welcome, but we cannot promise every parent will take to it. If they go quiet, a personal check-in from you may help; continuing is their choice.
Will it actually listen, or just work through a list of questions?
Each answer helps shape the next question. If your father mentions a friend from his first job, Alfaaz can ask about that friend instead of moving straight to another topic. It also keeps track of people, places, and unfinished stories across conversations, so it can return to something mentioned earlier. You can suggest a topic when there is something you would love to hear about.
Can they avoid a topic or stop the messages?
Yes. They can say they do not remember, ask to change the subject, skip a question, or leave it unanswered. 'Not today' on an invitation postpones it; replying STOP pauses future prompts. You can also pause from the family account. Pausing leaves the stories already shared in the archive. If they want something removed, you or they can request deletion at privacy@alfaaz.me.
Is Alfaaz suitable for a parent with memory loss?
Alfaaz is a storytelling service, not a medical or memory-care service. We cannot promise it will recover memories or be suitable for someone with memory loss. Your parent needs to understand that the voice is AI, that their stories will be saved for family, and agree to take part. If you are unsure about their understanding or consent, contact privacy@alfaaz.me before sharing their details.

Languages
Which language can my parent use?
Choose Hindi, Indian English, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, Tamil, or Gujarati during setup. Alfaaz asks its questions in that language, and your parent replies in it. Choose the language they feel most at home speaking. There is no need for them to tell their stories in English for the family's sake.
My grandmother speaks in a regional dialect. Will Alfaaz understand her?
It depends on how close her speech is to one of the supported languages. Strong dialects, unfamiliar words, and unclear audio can lead to transcription mistakes. Tell us which dialect she speaks before paying so we can discuss the fit. Her original voice notes are kept alongside the text, so a missed word in the transcript does not erase her telling.
Can they mix Hindi and English, or use family words?
Yes. Hindi-English mixing is supported, including switching within a sentence. Names, places, and family words such as Amma, Nani, or Dada are expected too. They do not need to translate every familiar word or make their speech formal. Accuracy can still vary, especially with unfamiliar names or strong dialects.
Will a few English words make Alfaaz switch languages?
No. Your parent's selected language guides Alfaaz's replies. A few English words or names in their answer do not change that setting. If you set up both parents, each can have a different primary language.

What your family gets
What does my family see after a conversation?
You can listen to the conversation in your parent's own voice, read the transcript, and see a summary. As they share more, their stories build into life chapters in a growing memoir, with the people and places connected along the way. You do not have to transcribe recordings or assemble the chapters yourself. You can also opt in to receive stories on your own WhatsApp.
Is it their real voice, and what if the written story gets something wrong?
The conversation audio is your parent's actual recording. The transcripts, summaries, and memoir chapters are made with AI and can contain mistakes; you can return to the original audio to hear what they said. Family members can review and edit written content, or contact us for help with a correction. A polished chapter is a version of their telling, not an independently verified account of the past.
Can I respond so my parent knows I listened?
Yes. On a story you can leave a short note or choose a reaction for Alfaaz to pass back to your parent on WhatsApp. Your note goes in your own words, with your name. Replies can wait until their current conversation is finished, so they are not interrupted mid-story. You can also suggest a follow-up question, or bring the story into your next call yourself.
Can we get a printed book or download the stories?
Every plan includes one chapter printed as a scroll and posted each month. Quarterly and yearly plans also include a hardcover of their stories, printed once a year. There is no self-serve export or PDF download in the family workspace today. You can request a portable copy of your data at privacy@alfaaz.me; that is separate from a designed, print-ready book.
Can my siblings and children listen too?
Yes. Invite family members to your account so they can listen to the same conversations and read the growing memoir. You can play a story with your children or share a memoir chapter using its share link. Anyone with a share link can open what it shares, so send it only to people you and your parent want to include.

Privacy and control
Does Alfaaz use family stories to train AI models?
No. Your family's recordings, transcripts, and stories are not used to train AI models. AI providers process content to ask questions, transcribe recordings, and organize stories as part of running the service. We do not sell family stories or use them for advertising. The trust and sub-processor pages explain which providers handle the data and why.
Who can access my elder's voice notes and archive?
Your family account and invited members can access the archive; anyone you give a story or memoir link to can open the content that link shares. Service providers process the data needed to run Alfaaz. Authorized staff may review affected recordings and written content to diagnose errors and correct data-quality problems, as described in the privacy policy. Stories are not published for other families to browse.
Can my parent or I delete a story or leave altogether?
Yes. Either of you can request removal of specific content or the elder's data at privacy@alfaaz.me. A family member can also delete an elder from the family account: access is removed immediately, with a 14-day window to restore before permanent deletion runs. Pausing messages or cancelling a subscription keeps the archive; deletion is a separate choice. Full retention details are on the trust and privacy pages.

Plans and getting started
What does Alfaaz cost, and can I pay from abroad?
Yes, you can pay by card from abroad. Every plan starts with a 9-day free trial: you enter card details and subscribe, and the first payment is taken on day 10 unless you cancel before then. Plans for one elder start at $21 a month (USD), with quarterly and yearly options and plans for two elders. The pricing page shows each plan's conversations and keepsakes; any applicable tax is shown at checkout. Review the full amount and billing period before you pay.
What if I pay and my parent never replies?
You find out before you pay. Every plan opens with a 9-day free trial, and the first question can reach your parent minutes after checkout, so those 9 days are spent watching whether they actually reply. Cancel before day 10, from your account or by emailing us, and you are never charged at all. It is not a promise that every parent will take to it; if they are having trouble getting started, write to us during the free days and we will help. The pricing page has the full terms.
Does a subscription renew automatically, and how do I cancel?
Yes. A new subscription is free for the first 9 days and then renews at the end of each billing period — monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Cancel any time, in two clicks. It keeps running until the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing is taken after that. Cancelling during the free 9 days means you are never charged at all. Pausing your parent's messages does not cancel the subscription; use the cancellation control in your family account to stop renewal.
Will we lose the recordings if we stop paying?
When the term ends, new conversations stop. Everything already gathered stays yours to read and listen to, for good. Cancelling your subscription does not delete the archive. There is no self-serve download today; if you want a portable copy, request one at privacy@alfaaz.me.
